As much as I would love to claim to be a magician, sadly it’s just not true.

Hence when a client brings an ugly house to us, we cannot ‘magically’ make it beautiful…..

Oh yes, we will try our hardest and we can pretty up the surroundings, add in gorgeous landscaping, an ideal blue summers day sky and all manner of exterior tricks and techniques.

But the fact is an UGLY HOUSE will still be ugly.

So how do we minimise the Ugliness?? (Notice I said minimise as beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder!!!)

Firstly, if a house is plain and boring, we can highlight its strengths, for example, does it have large windows? Great, then we can really deck out the inside to give a feeling of homeliness to it.

Maybe we could add a dusk environment so that we can make the façade ‘pop’ with lights and textures instead of relying on the design.

Another thing we do is ensure the landscaping on an ugly house, whilst not overpowering the design, might be on the larger and less subtle side. Again, drawing on outside influences which we can create to ensure the house isn’t so dominant.

We also like to mask a plain and boring driveway with a beautiful car, it’s not essential but can break up the stark lines on some houses.  Shadows also play a huge part in this.  We allow our soft shadows to drape across the house to soften hard lines. Remember, a 3d Render/Visualisation is fully created from scratch, so everything you see we have created for a reason – shadows are no exception.

Sometimes a change in view will work with a not so attractive house, we might be able to again highlight the strengths of a home by rotating the view, either vertically or horizontally. Sometimes the standard front on view isn’t the best way to go.

Ok, so there’s my take on Ugly houses, we can’t always fix them, but we can reduce the impact!
